Clare Senior Care AFC | GAFC at the August Moon Festival in Quincy

On Sunday, August 17, Clare Senior Care AFC | GAFC was honored to participate in the August Moon Festival held at Quincy Center. Organized by Quincy Asian Resources, Inc. (QARI) in partnership with the City of Quincy, the festival has been a proud tradition since 1987 and is now one of the largest Asian cultural celebrations in New England. Each year, it draws 15,000–20,000 attendees, including families, seniors, local organizations, and state and city officials.

General Information about the Festival

The August Moon Festival is a joyful celebration of community, diversity, and cultural heritage. It marks the harvest season and the symbolism of the full moon—representing unity, prosperity, and family togetherness. With strong support from the City of Quincy and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the festival has grown into both a cultural highlight and a civic tradition.

Highlights & Community Activities

The festival offered an exciting mix of performances, cultural showcases, and family-friendly fun:

  • Traditional and modern performances: Lion dance, K-pop, Bollywood, Latin dance, Mongolian dance, and other artistic displays from Greater Boston performers.
  • Food and marketplace: Dozens of food trucks, Asian street food vendors, and artisan market stalls with crafts, gifts, and cultural items.
  • Family fun: Bouncy houses, rock climbing, carnival-style games, and free treats like ice cream and cotton candy for children and families.
  • Civic connection: Festivalgoers enjoyed the chance to meet city and state leaders, reinforcing the event’s strong role in bridging community and government.

Clare Senior Care’s Contribution

Clare Senior Care was proud to support the festival in two important ways:

  1. Cultural Sponsorship – We sponsored a local Taekwondo performance team, whose demonstration of strength, discipline, and teamwork inspired the crowd and highlighted the importance of youth engagement.
  2. Practical Support for Families – Our team assisted seniors and caregivers with:
    • MassHealth applications and renewals (AFC & GAFC programs)
    • Reviewing and explaining senior insurance benefits

These services helped families access critical resources in a friendly, approachable setting—right in the heart of the community celebration.

Building Stronger Connections

During the festival, our leadership team had the opportunity to meet with the Mayor of Quincy and the Head of City Council. Their encouragement and support continue to strengthen Clare’s efforts, especially as we pursue grants for workforce development to expand training opportunities for caregivers and improve services for seniors across Massachusetts.

Looking Ahead

For Clare Senior Care AFC | GAFC, community is at the heart of our mission. The August Moon Festival not only showcases cultural pride and diversity but also creates space for families, seniors, leaders, and organizations to come together. We are proud to have played a part in this year’s celebration and look forward to supporting the festival—and our community—for many years to come.
